One of the things that Corporate America, the American Military, and our current dysfunctional neo-fascist government all have in common is their ability to come up with and popularize names and euphemisms. These names and euphemisms are designed to do one thing: Soften or make abstract the true meanings of concepts or events. The use of the words: Insurgency and Insurgents seems to have infected all aspects of our media, our thoughts, and our discussions. What is most amazing to me is the fact that so many people on the so-called left use the words, Insurgency and Insurgents. No one seems to be aware that in using these words, they are buying into a small piece of a deliberate deception.
Let’s look for a minute at the definition of Insurgency: An insurgency is an armed rebellion by any irregular armed force that rises up against an established authority, government, administration or occupation. Those carrying out an insurgency are “insurgents”. Insurgents engage in regular or guerilla combat against the armed forces of the established regime. Insurgents usually are in opposition to a civil authority or government primarily in order to overthrow or obtain a share in government, to further a separatist or revolutionary agenda, or improve their condition.
No matter what type of spin you put on the word, Insurgency, it still comes out to really mean one thing: Rebellion. No matter how you use the word, Insurgents, they are still just: Rebels. For god’s sake, we are not fighting some abstract disconnected Insurgency; we are fighting a rebellion. And the Insurgents are not men without a cause; they are Rebels. Everyone who truly cares about this situation should strike Insurgency and Insurgents from their minds, their conversations and their writings. Rebellion and Rebels should replace them. We need to stop buying a piece of this lie and call a spade a spade. Our military is trying to crush a rebellion and kill the rebels who are perpetuating it.
