Josh Marshall on the Prosecutor Firings

Never has there been a better example of the power that has been given to the people by well run investigative blog sites. Read or watch the video of Josh Marshall from talkingpointsmemo.com give Bill Moyers Journal his perspective on the role of politics in the recent firings of federal prosecutors.

For six years the Democrats in Congress have suffered from what Jon Stewart might call subpoena envy. As the minority they didn't have the power to order anyone to testify before their hearings. But that's changed. Democrats are now in the majority, and they're issuing subpoenas as fast and furious as Zeus hurled thunderbolts from Mount Olympus. Read transcript or watch video here.

Fascist America, in 10 easy steps

From Hitler to Pinochet and beyond, history shows there are certain steps that any would-be dictator must take to destroy constitutional freedoms. And, argues Naomi Wolf, George Bush and his administration seem to be taking them all.

The Guardian

Last autumn, there was a military coup in Thailand. The leaders of the coup took a number of steps, rather systematically, as if they had a shopping list. In a sense, they did. Within a matter of days, democracy had been closed down: the coup leaders declared martial law, sent armed soldiers into residential areas, took over radio and TV stations, issued restrictions on the press, tightened some limits on travel, and took certain activists into custody. Defeating the Republican Party in 2008

I guess the exercise of running for president must be seen as some type of resume builder. The current crop of Republican candidates or want-to-be candidates cannot actually think that they have a real chance of winning the next election? They can’t seriously think that the American people are going to elect another Republican president?

In spite of Karl Roves attempt to establish a thousand year Reich, the Republicans are soon to be a seriously defeated minority. It is not a question of if they will be defeated, but how badly they will they be defeated in the next election?

We can only hope that the party that spawned the Bush Administration will be torn apart, never again to be reassembled. We must make our mission after the defeat of the Republicans, to forever guard against another rise of corporate/religious fascism. We need to take back and then hold on tightly, to our country, our democracy and our freedom.

Republican Presidential Candidates?

Ok now, is there something I’m missing about our current Republican presidential candidates? Does this group have some qualities that I have overlooked? What a bunch of misfits and losers! The cream has been slowly rising to the top, but in this case it’s more like turds floating to the top of sewage treatment tank.

First, we have Rudy (I’m not a social liberal) Giuliani. Who is he trying to fool, for christ sake? Does he really think he can sell himself to millions of bible pounding Southern Christians who think the Rapture is upon us? Get real Rudy!

Second, we have Mitt (I've been a hunter all my life) Romney. What planet has he just arrived from? Mitt, in case you don’t know it, most Americans consider Mormons to be just a tiny bit on the weird side. Remember that the reason your faith is based in Utah is because the founders of your religion were driven out of the Eastern States. So now, we are going to elect a Mormon President? When snowballs sail through hell we will!

Third and finally, we have John (Baghdad market walking) McCain. Please someone; tell this man he needs to take his medication. John, the last time I looked up the word maverick, the definition was not, “A senator who blows the president on a regular basis”. Get a clue John; you have about the same chances of getting elected president, as Bush has of getting elected to another term. Zero!!

American University Protest of Karl Rove

It is not news that someone is protesting against Karl Rove. Protests against this lunatic weasel have been going on for quite some time. What is interesting about the American University Protest is the fact that, I found out about it, from a cable news channel. Perhaps even the corporate media has realized that Criminal Karl deserves both shouted obscenities and thrown tomatoes?

Students Lie in Front of Car, Delay Rove After Speech

Heckling protesters briefly delayed the car carrying top White House aide Karl Rove last night as he left the American University campus, where he had just given a speech. No arrests or injuries were reported after Rove's invitation-only talk. About 20 students lay in front of the car as it prepared to leave, a witness said. Entire article here

Corporate Sin, Circuit City, and the Firing of 3,400

After reading Circuit City to FIRE 3,400 & Then Hire CHEAPER Employees, I wrote to Circuit City to tell them a little of what I thought of them. I would hope others would do the same.

Customer Care Services,

I will encourage everyone I know to not shop at Circuit City. Your firing of 3400 (higher paid) senior employees is completely wrong. It is my hope that there is a special place reserved for your management in Hell.

Sincerely,

Dear S.Simmons,

Rehire these wronged employees and admit your mistake to the country. Sinful actions like this will bring bad to your company and bad to the people (like you) who perpetuate and rationalize such actions. There are hopes, dreams, children, grandchildren, aunts, and uncles behind the names of your fired employees. They are not just items on a balance sheet. I hope for your sake, that the day does not come, when your manager taps you on the shoulder and informs you, that after years of service and outstanding accomplishments, you are being replaced by cheaper help. Perhaps, it would be a good idea to prepare for this day. I would.
