Will Bush/Cheney Leave Office on January 20, 2009?

After watching the movie, V for Vendetta again the other night, I was haunted by this question: Will the Bush/Cheney junta actually leave office on January 20, 2009? If you haven't seen the movie yet, I recommend that you watch it. See if the same question rises the surface of your consciousness. Reality can indeed be stranger and more frightening that fiction.

I've been beginning to wonder that myself... will they begin to realize that the only way to avoid war crimes is to institutionalize themselves as leaders of the country.

I haven’t seen the film yet [I have two little kids and little time] but I did read the graphic novel in the ‘80’s, when it came out- directed at Thatcher’s government. Like Terry Gilliam’s ‘Brazil’ it was, at the time, an attempt to show how a democratic government can find tyrannical oppression as a logical outcome. Now I feel like I’m living it.

You hit the nail on the head by asking that question. “Are they going to leave?” indeed. I, for some reason, have less fear about Bush then Cheney & Co., them with the undisclosed locations and the Blackwater mercenaries and the energy-company bedfellows.

How would they do it, though? No doubt by scaring the people again with threats, credible or otherwise. I don’t assume they would have the capacity or will to manufacture an incident, but a lot of things that have happened in the past few years are things I would never have expected. We’re on the other side of the looking glass these days.
