Does America Deserve Barack Obama?

Power in America has shifted back to the Democratic Party. There is much that needs to be done. We the people allowed terrible things to happen in the last 8 years with little or no opposition. This new Democratic leadership does not automatically guarantee that the interests of the people will be served.

We must be vigilant, knowledgeable, active and engaged in the Democratic process. We can’t expect the Democrats to always do the right thing. We must demand that they act in our best interests. Americans in many ways deserved George W. Bush. It remains to be seen if they now deserve Barack Obama. Only time will tell, I guess!

I don't think any of us "deserved George Bush" but it is amazing the terror grip he had on the US to the point that his criminal policies - Guantanemo, etc - were largely accepted tacitly. Now he's gone, it's easy to say "let's be vigilant" but who is going to do what if anything like the last 8 years resurface any time in the future? What was that saying about evil prospering while good men ... ?

Good luck with the new President.

I respectfully disagree with you. America deserved George W. Bush! Millions of Americans were sucked into the propaganda machine that built, exploited, and then maintained the myth that was Compassionate Conservatism and George W. Bush. Millions were content to swallow lies and live their lives consumed by the corporate sponsored distractions and sub-cultures.

In spite of the Obama victory, 58,343,671 Americans thought that McCain was a better choice for president! It is hard to imagine a grimmer domestic/foreign scenario before the election and still millions of morons voted for McCain and his grossly unqualified running mate! Americans only started to take a real interest in politics when thousands started losing their homes and then their jobs. During the last 8 years, only a few raised the alarm to the sleeping or brainwashed millions. It took the collapse of our economy to wake the brain dead from their toys, movies, TVs, and sports.

So when I say we must be vigilant, I am really saying two things. First, we must not fall back asleep and assume that is new bunch will always do what is right. Second, we must continually educate and involve ourselves in the process. How many Americans will turn off their TVs, to educate themselves or become involved in what is really going on? My guess is not many?
